Zuir is the moniker of André Ruiz, professor at the Calouste Gulbenkian Conservatory in Braga, Portugal and composer of acousmatic music that builds on the early days of Electronic Music (Studio Cologne) and the processing of natural sound sources similar to Musique Concrète. Much of his work is based on granular synthesis and the use of Supercollider and may be anything from single tones of a piano to white noise, from soft to grainy and distorted, but always embedded into a solid framework.
