Stantia's main characteristics are the brevity of gestures and motifs and rather sparse arrangements that live from the
transformation of space and dimensions. Using the granular synthesis and processing capabilities of Supercollider,
geometrically shaped structures recurve and branch out to gather for new arrangements whilst never losing the common
thread of the initial pattern. As it is typical of electroacoustic music, much of the sound sources are of natural origin,
but have been tranformed and removed from their original context, forcing the listener to perceive them as what they are,
rather than the mere abstraction of their meaning.
Structures are characterised by huge dynamic contrasts, sudden changes in pace alignment, pauses, expansion and contraction and create the paradox of liveliness in electronic music, the more complex its underlying algorithms are. As a result of the degree of abstraction, André Ruiz's album Stantia does not carry any underlying emotions but appears more like a cathedral of sound. There is a rich tonal spectrum and cleverly arranged passages that make use of complementing timbres which leave the impression of music despite the absence of discernable tonalities.
