Decay is my third release under the moniker nodepet and compared to its
predecessor en fin terrible it features the paradox of creating more complex music
with a leaner production and reduction of themes. Contrary to previous works, Decay
is not a random collection of unrelated tracks: There are four tracks interacting with each
other and providing different angles to a common subject, which could be about life or anything
else the listener may be able to identify.
What seems to take off with a gentle ninth chord actually loses momentum and is swallowed by a sharp dissonance leading to an unexpected chord change. This rapid mood in swing finds a preliminary rest in some low key drones. Distant patches of memories are floating around, trying to derive conclusions from past events. Steps of a restless soul wandering about abandoned streets and duly giving in to other people's expectations. Ocassionally an agressive tone attempts a break out, but quickly reverts to the gloomy mood, merely resulting in sinister tension. This troubled mortal coil is finally left behind, but the prevailing melancholic tone suggests that the relief is just of a temporary nature.
Is Decay trying to illustrate a story, that would run contrary to my refusal to instruct
people how to perceive my music? Not really, because these titles are the result of my personal
associations upon completion. There may be a connection between the music's overall tone and my
personal state of mind, but still it should be considered as an absolute standalone work. As such,
Decay is a more focussed and accomplished work than previous Nodepet offers in my
opinion. It is a complex work that both requires full attention and may not fit for anyone or any
purpose. But then again, that is precisely the reason why it was released on Petcord ;-).
