Paolino Canzoneri from Sicily, Italy combines today's gadgets and digital production at home with the tradition of
early electronic music of the late 50ies and 60ies of places like Cologne or Milan to create a digitalised mix of both
confusing and intruiging oddities. Generated with Tenori On, Korg Kaos Pad 3 and Cubase 5, analogue bleeps and processing
artifacts harshly collide with unexpected silence and pattern shifts on i giorni del dimagrimento, his first work
for the Petcord netlabel. A distinct architecture of atomic sequences is immanent and forms a composite study comparable
to a Futuristic painting. Another parallel ist the focus on motion and its metamorphosis, rather than the descriptive
approach of a split second like the majority of electronic music forms.
The works emphasise their artificial nature as an accidental by-product of applied algorithms and yet, as a paradox, the
music appears lively and organic. Maybe, it is due to being allowed to act freely and unrestrictedly. Stylistically, as a
result of its roots, i giorni del dimagrimento has a much closer approximity to electro-acoustic and avantgarde than
to IDM (excuse me for using a three-letter word here), yet there is a certain warmth and aesthetical beauty of sound more
typical of the latter music category. To me, Paolino Canzoneri's début on Petcord, exhibits a strong originality and
fortunately fails to fit into stereotype categories, because that enables people to listen to the music without a bias and
discover the strange beauty inherent to these tunes.
